Obtaining an ITAE close to 3, the response behavior of the system is a smooth one, free of oscillations (Fig. 2). For the system operating as a regulator the rules by Sung are employed. In this case the ITAE value is considerably higher for plants Gp1_servo3 and Gp1_servo2, and the system presents oscillations. From this result, it has to be concluded that the rules proposed by Sung are a good choice for the system operating as a servomechanism; while for the case where the system operates as a regulator the use of these rules should be reconsidered.

Due to the features that the control problem has, where the objective is to minimize a function by a suitable combination of controller parameters which can be expressed as a function of cost, the solution is presented as an optimization problem. The algorithm MAGO is used to calculate the controller parameters seeking to minimize the ITAE. The results, reported in Table 4, are compared with those obtained by the traditional tuning rules. The results obtained by MAGO were very satisfactory for all cases.
